Reading at Home: Please encourage your child to read for at least 20 minutes each night. While reading, be sure to ask various Wh-Questions about the story (What, Who, Where, When, Why, and How) as well as predicting questions (What will happen next?). Skills including retelling the story, Summarizing the story, finding key details, and determining the Main Idea will also help improve comprehension. Below are links to various grade-level questions to help you with conversations about your child's reading. Reading Log: A weekly reading log will be sent home and can go back and forth from school and home for the week. The student will track minutes read, titles of books read, and answer 3 comprehension questions per week regarding their books. Below is a copy of the reading log.
